Most freshers don’t know the various types of companies associated with the oil and gas chain. Due to the lack of this awareness, they often struggle to plan for their career.
So, we have prepared a simple 1 page summary to create clarity about what are the different types of companies along with a few examples for each.

𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Responsible for policies and regulations, these are mostly Govt agencies
𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: ‘Owner’ companies, owning and leading oil and gas field development and production, sale of crude oil, natural gas, LNG
𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘆: ‘Owner’ companies, converting crude to fuels and lubes and overseeing it’s sales
𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹: ‘Owner’ companies, converting naphtha or natural gas to petrochemicals

Of course, this is just a small subset of a vast database so if your favorite company is not listed, don’t feel disappointed.
Also, some companies are put in a category for which they are more popular and have not been included in other categories. For example, ONGC is generally known as an E&P company even though they have OMPL and MRPL which are downstream plants.
